ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia(APO) — Some African Heads of State and Government, and high level private sector leaders are meeting in Dakar, Senegal from 14 to15 June 2014 in what has been dubbed the “Dakar Financing Summit.”The summit is aimed at accelerating the implementation of priority regional infrastructural development projects.

Meeting under the aegis of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), the summit is being hosted and officially presided over by H.E. Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal and Chairperson of the NEPAD Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee (HSGOC).

President MackySallwill be joined by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma; UN Under Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa, Dr. Carlos Lopes; the President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Donald Kaberuka and others who will deliver statements and make presentations.

To press the integration agenda, Dr. Dlamini Zuma is expected to call for more domestic resource mobilization and increased private-sector support for the 16 identified projects in transport, rail, ports, energy, and ICT, to be show-cased in Dakar, being key to leveraging regional integration.

Among other presentations, Dr. Donald Kaberuka of the African Development Bank will present the Africa50 Investment vehicle to accelerate infrastructural development financing, amongst others.

The Dakar Financing Summit will issue the Dakar Declaration on “Financing for Africa’s Infrastructure Development”.
